In all areas where an explosive atmosphere occurs, special safety guidelines are in effect, which requires the use of specially tested components. As it is employed in EU, the ATEX directive, which determines the safe operation of plants and systems in potentially explosive atmospheres, is effective for this purpose.
Other countries and continents have other safety directives in this area (IECEx, TR-TS, NEC, etc.) – often these are European ATEX legislation.
